Maria Buckley joined Galway Hooker Sailing Club in 2021 just in time for the last few months of the Loveen restoration which ignited her love of working on wooden boats. Despite growing up miles from the sea in her native Cork, on the water is where she feels at home. As part of being one of the crew she helps with the caretaking of the Gleoiteóg Lon Dubh, is one of the organisers of Galway Docklands Festival and is an assistant sailing instructor. She is at her happiest when boating, floating or working on the club’s fleet.
