How She Came
to the Club
Having joined the club in late 2020 and volunteered his time on the restoration of other club boats, Gerard Hynes developed a passion for restoring a boat of his own. After some time researching and looking for the right boat, he found An Easóg, on a beach in Maree which needed major repairs – enough to sink his teeth into. With the help of the club An Easóg was manhandled onto a trailer and taken from the beach to the workshop at the back of Galway Seafoods where restoration works began.

Restoration
and Revival
Under the guidance of our master boat builder Coilín Hernon, Gerard and crew began work on cleaning out her seams, building a new transom and on had started the process of replacing old ribs with new. This was a new and exciting time for crew who were eager to upskill in their wood working skills.
Unfortunately due to a relocation of the workshop, restoration work has temporarily stopped on An Easóg and she is currently undercover at Gerard house in Carraroe until a suitable space is located again and crew can resume work on her.
